I wanted everything and nothing all at once.
Braving fresh new horizons with the wind at my back and fire in my hand. My eyes held passion, my feet filled with urgency, and my mind spun with the hope and anticipation of good things to come.
Then I stopped short, a glimmer caught my eye. Unexpected, unanticipated, like a breath of fresh air and a thrill of new life, you captivated my mind and beckoned to my senses.
Like a rabbit down a rabbit hole, I fell through dimensions, passing vibrant colors on my way through music wrapped in ecstasy. And it was blissful.
Landing in a bed of roses, with a scent so altering it haunted my dreams, while the sting of the thorns gave birth to a lust for blood, insatiable.
I laughed as I cried, feeling so alive all the while knowing I was dying in a self-made pit of quicksand and mire.
As the dawn began to break and the high waned, I tried to crawl out but found that vines entangled my once urgent and light-hearted feet.
How long had it been? It was but a moment! A sweet pause in time that was over in the blink of an eye.
The glimmer fluttered away on my breath as I exhaled, like the delicate wings of a butterfly in a spring storm, giving chase to an addict who got a singular taste and found herself lost.
The wind accusingly whispered the betrayal of an illusion created by my mind, a non-existent experience, like a bad trip through space and time.
But my still bleeding skin and bruises quickly evolving into the shades of a breath-taking sunset screamed of its reality, however brief.
My heart reeled in a vicious game of tug-of-war, where both sides lose.
And I fell to the ground in a crumpled heap, like the melting mess of a villain caught, desperate to recuperate the innocence of an adventure unlived.
